Series I. Tri-State Conference on the Impact of Steel

Scope and Content Notes:

The Tri-State Conference on the Impact of Steel is an organization created to fight the deindustrialization of the Pittsburgh region. It was started by McCollester and others in 1979 to fight mill shutdowns in Youngstown. There are many types of documents in this collection including newspaper articles and organizational records, which include meeting minutes and funding applications. Documents also detail Tri- State’s efforts to save steelmaking facilities, like the campaigns to save Mesta and the Dorothy 6 blast furnace, as well as their efforts to help laid off workers. There are also flyers for rallies and conferences that were held by the Tri- State Conference and studies on how to save the local industry.
