The collection also contains information on a study of second generation foreign students, a Civil Affairs Training Program, immigration, countries and ethnic groups, lecture notes for Ms. Mitchell's classes, and her personal papers.

Abstract: Alfredo A. Roggiano was professor of Hispanic languages and literatures at the University of Pittsburgh from 1963 until 1984. In addition to his tenure as professor, Roggiano was also a renowned Argentine poet and Director of the Revista Iberoamericana, a leading scholarly journal of Latin American literature. Through his influence, the International Institute of Iberoamerican Literature has been housed at the University of Pittsburgh. Professor Roggiano's collection includes professional correspondences, various newspaper articles detailing his accomplishments, manuscripts, books, published articles, and various conferences and lectures. Many of the conferences contain records and activities of the International Institute of Iberoamerican Literature.

Abstract: Cynthia Sutherland was a professor of English Literature and Women’s Studies at the University of Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1996. Her teaching interests encompassed a broad range of subject matter including: Elizabethan through eighteenth-century drama, modern drama, myth studies, folklore, children’s literature, fantasy and science fiction literature, psychoanalysis and identity, representations of women in literature, and the influence of women authors on drama and literature. The papers in this collection include syllabi, lecture notes, annotated course materials, example quizzes and exams, as well as a small amount of personal and professional correspondence, and one exam from her PhD course work.

Abstract: Alvin P. Shapiro, a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh's medical school (1956-1998), concentrated his research on hypertension, clinical pharmacology, and psychosomatic response with particular focus on the links between hypertension and stress, as well as renal function and hypertension related to systemic scleroderma. He was very active in the administration of the University of Pittsburgh's Medical School as well as Presbyterian University Hospital. Notably, he headed the study section of the Hypertension Detection and Follow-up Program, which produced the first large-scale study of hypertension. Included in this collection are published and unpublished abstracts and manuscripts, research study data sheets, discussion and presentation materials, book drafts, personal military records, personal and professional correspondence, and a few photographs.

Abstract: The Maurice A. Shapiro Environmental Health Collections documents the career and research interests of Maurice A. Shapiro, longtime professor at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH). Shapiro was a noted sanitary engineer and advocate of environmental health whose research interests included air and water pollution, lead poisoning, sewage treatment, and food and housing sanitation. He was also known for his involvement in large national and international projects, several of which are documented here. Also included is material related to his career at the University, including administrative and course material. This collections includes correspondence, reports, publications, pamphlets, notes, papers, and a small amount of audio and visual material.

Abstract: This collection contains the professional papers of Donald M. Goldstein (1932- ), an historian of the Pacific theater of World War II and professor at the University of Pittsburgh. The crux of this collection is the World War II series. It contains invaluable primary documentation, the bulk of which is unique to this collection and consists of interviews and personal papers from the military leaders and government officials involved in the Pearl Harbor attack. In addition to the World War II series, this collection highlights Goldstein’s other research interests: Amelia Earhart, International Relations, Korean War, Spanish-American War, Vietnam War, Ennis Whitehead, Williwaw War, World War I and Jacob Deshazer. Abstract: This collection contains the papers of Dennison I. Rusinow, adjunct professor of history, research professor in the Center for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Pittsburgh and preeminent scholar of the former-Yugoslavia. The focus of the collection is the late professor’s research materials and margin notes. These documents offer a perspective of the Cold War from Yugoslavia’s non-aligned vantage point. Additionally, Rusinow’s own thoughts, ideas and questions can often be found along the margins of the research itself. The political pamphlets and Tito box set are also unique. Both sets are original documents from Southeastern Europe collected during the late professor’s professional career abroad. Textual documents such as transcripts, manuscripts, correspondence, reports and course materials compose the majority of the collection, with the exception of a few sets of photographs and the Josip Broz Tito box set.

Later, he taught at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Science, specializing in the instruction of oral history and African-American bibliography.
