The Archives Service Center recently implemented a data management system, known as Archivists’ Toolkit
(AT), to broadly support a range of archival activities, including accessioning, locating and describing archival materials. The finding aids, or collection guides, we now produce for our collections are created in AT. This workflow streamlines the process of creating, revising and mounting uniform finding aids for our collections. For instance, you will notice a slightly different method of citing collection numbers (e.g., the Fort Pitt Supply Company Records
is no longer referenced as ‘ais197503,’ but as ‘AIS.1975.03’). Also note that during the six month transition to AT, we were prevented from releasing new finding aids to recently processed collections. So in the coming days we will be announcing many new collections that are now open for research use.
