The Historic Pittsburgh Census Project allows users to search
the U.S. Census Schedules for the city of Pittsburgh from the
years 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 and for Allegheny City from the
years 1850, 1860, and 1870. (The boundaries of the cities can be
seen on maps from the Historic
Pittsburgh Maps Collection.)
Census schedules contain information about specific individuals.
This data is used to create many of the statistical reports of
the U.S. Census. The information included in the schedules varies
from year to year. To view a summary of what is found in each
year, please visit the Census Data Description page.
To learn more, please see About the Census Project, and for questions about the history and accuracy of the census data, visit the About the Census Schedules.
