Copyright and Use of the Book and Map Collections
The University of Pittsburgh provides access to the digital materials on the Historic Pittsburgh website for educational, non-commercial, and private research use only. Any other use of these materials, including but not limited to commercial or scholarly reproductions, redistribution, publication, or transmission, is strictly prohibited without written permission.
Unless otherwise noted, the majority of the books in our full-text collection and maps included on the Historic Pittsburgh website are in the public domain; please see our separate statement on the Copyright and Use of the Image Collections (photographs). For any item not in the public domain, the University of Pittsburgh received written permission or copyright clearance for the use of that item on this site.
Users of the Historic Pittsburgh website do not need to seek permission for downloading images for private or educational use. However, the University of Pittsburgh does retain the rights to the digital images available on this website.
Please use the Contact Form to direct any copyright or reproduction inquiries to the ULS Archives Service Center. Permission for commercial use will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may require a fee, depending on the proposed use.
